Why should we be baptised?

Baptism is the total immersion of the person in water or the Holy Spirit.  Believers are called to be baptised in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and to follow Christ’s example in every sense. As Jesus was baptised (fully immersed) in water by John the Baptist, He was subsequently baptised with the Holy Spirit when the Spirit, like a dove, rested on Him [Mt 3:16, Mk 1:8-10, Lk 3:16, 21-22, John 1:26-34]

Water Baptism: Once we have asked Jesus to come into our heart to be our Lord and Saviour (born-again), we can be baptised in water. Water baptism is an outward sign of repentance (turning away from our old lifestyle) and publically declaring that we want to follow Jesus from now on.

When we are baptised, our old life is symbolically washed so all our sins are cleansed and forgiven, and we come out of the water as a new person in Christ [Acts 2:38-40, Eph 4:22-24, 1Cor 6:11]. In Christ means to be under the protection of Jesus Christ – our Heavenly Father sees us as His child through Jesus’ eyes of love [2Cor 5:17].
